Football Focus: Champions League, Europa League and English Premier

English Premier League champions in waiting Manchester City reached the Final of the Champions League with an impressive win in both legs of the semi-final against Paris St Germain.

A 2-1 win away to PSG had the makings of a thrilling second leg but the French giants never got a look-in as Manchester City stormed out of the blocks and completely dominated the second leg winning that 2-0 to clinch a deserved place in the final.

There, on May 29th they will meet Chelsea who, after a 1-1 draw away to Real Madrid, humbled the Spanish club in the return leg. The winning margin, 2-0, testament to how much the London club have grown and improved this season.

Manchester United have also turned their season around emerging from what had seemed to be a season to forget to title contenders who almost, almost made it but the Blue side of the city of Manchester proved too strong for everyone.

United were ruthless against Roma in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final and although losing the second leg 3-2 their place in the final was never in doubt. Maybe Roma wanted to impress new boss Jose Mourinho ahead of his arrival for next season.

Back in England Manchester City will be crowned Premier League Champions if they beat Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium later today.

Their victory against PSG sent them through to their first Champions League Final but manager Pep Guardiola said he is totally focused on today’s game and the win that will seal the Premier crown.

Further down the table survival is the name of the game and for one of the clubs with the most loyal supporters, Newcastle United look to have sealed their place in the Premiership for next season following a 4-2 win against Leicester City. For under pressure manager Steve Bruce the win and the manner in which Newcastle ripped into Leicester was vindication for his belief that a Newcastle side with a fully fit first choice team could be a match for any side. There is still work to be done. Newcastle never seem to do anything the easy way but with survival with-in their grasp, next season is another season. And what will that bring about.
