For the third week in a row as part of the tourism recovery plan, the government has launched more incentives, this time for diving and sports tourism niches.
This was announced at a news conference by the Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo together with the Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority Gavin Gulia.
Minister Clayton Bartolo announced a € 750,000 scheme aimed at attracting tourists who come to Malta for diving.
“Through this scheme, we will be giving a €100 voucher to every foreign tourist who intends to come to Malta to practice this hobby. This same voucher must be spent in the diving centers around Malta and Gozo, “continued Minister Clayton Bartolo.
The Minister also mentioned how a tourist will be able to apply through a google form on the website www.visitmalta.com, where among others he must also present a couple of air tickets.
Once the Malta Tourism Authority carries out its checks it will send this voucher to the tourist via email.
“The overall effect that a scheme of this kind is expected to have on the Maltese economy is €12,000,000, with €3,000,000 of them on the island of Gozo. One of our natural values is the sea, so it is important that we take an opportunity to attract this tourist niche to Malta, ”stressed Minister Clayton Bartolo.
The second scheme with a budget of €1,500,000 is dedicated to sports tourism, through which each organizer will be benefiting from €100 for each athlete who comes to Malta or Gozo.
This scheme will apply from July 2021 and the sports disciplines that will benefit are all those that are accredited by SportsMalta.
“Sport tourism does not only mean the beauty of sport itself but is synonymous with sustainable, participatory tourism and significantly overcomes the seasonality of the sector,” reiterated Minister Clayton Bartolo.
Finally, in two words on the occasion, the Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority Gavin Gulia stressed that the MTA remains committed to giving due importance to specialized tourism that goes beyond the elements that generally attract independent tourists during all year round.
