Prime Minister Robert Abela, together with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne, visited a new Telemedicine center at the Mosta Technopark where he was able to observe closely the joint work being carried out by a number of professionals to answer Covid-19 related calls.
Prime Minister Robert Abela said that these workers are offering their service day and night and are part of the frontliners of our country. Dr. Abela reiterated that they deserved all recognition and thanked them for their role during this pandemic, particularly by offering professional service to the community at times when the patient was asking for some form of help.
The medical services at this center are provided by 30 doctors and 11 nurses. During the day there will be about 7 doctors present while during the night there will be 4. These professionals assist in various ways including by giving medical advice to patients, providing reassurance for the patient’s symptomatology and provide guidance to patients to access all currently available services in their community.
The Telemedicine Center receives about 2,500 calls a day and as of April 1, 2020 has received 564,940 calls.
Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne expressed satisfaction with the way Primary Healthcare has adapted to the pandemic, so that they continue to offer a consistent service to patients where possible. He reminded how the same group of doctors and nurses are regularly calling those people who have Covid-19 to observe their situation while they are in quarantine in their homes.
