A vessel which was in a state of abandonment was given as a donation to the Cottonera Foundation for restoration. This was announced during a visit by the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg and the Chairman of the Cottonera Foundation Glenn Bedingield at Flagstone Wharf, Marsa.
The vessel was recovered from wreckage at Msida and taken over by the Authority and stacked on the hard at Flagstone Wharf, Marsa.
Minister Ian Borg said, “This vessel, among others being lifted from our waters, was declared abandoned, it was published for sale but without success and so we decided that instead of disposing of it, we should donate it to the Cottonera Foundation so that it can be restored and enjoyed by the people. We are constantly working for our communities and also for these types of foundations in order to provide them the necessary help.”
The Chairman of the Cottonera Foundation Glenn Bedingfield thanked Transport Malta for giving this sea vessel to be enjoyed by the people instead of disposing of it. The Cottonera Foundation intends to restore this vessel and give as a donation to the Kalkara Local Council to embellish the locality.
Regarding the locality of Kalkara, Bedingfield expressed his satisfaction that in the near future through the Grand Harbor Regeneration Corporation (GHRC) will be seeing a strong government investment so that Kalkara, such as the other cities of Cottonera, will be more beautiful than it is today.
