The term ‘disability’ is wide-ranging and therefore the need to give a voice to persons with disabilities continues to grow. This was affirmed by President George Vella during a virtual meeting organised by the Malta Federation of Organisations Persons with Disability (MFOPD).
In his speech, the President explained how while the mission of the federation is not easy, it is certainly important as it offers a voice to all the organisations in this field. The President stated that the strength in unity is a principle that works wherever it is applied, including in this field, with the aim of pulling on the same rope.
As last year the MFOPD celebrated its fiftieth anniversary since its inception, the President explained that he believes that the federation still has a role in bringing forward proposals and ideas on how the lives of persons with different abilities can be further improved and integrated into society at large.
The President also said that it is his wish to see that in Malta we have a society that is truly equitable and inclusive and one that is able to recognise abilities rather than disabilities.
