Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri and Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi visited the Astra Theatre of the Soċjetà Filarmonika La Stella in Victoria, Gozo, in which the project ‘Identity of an Island’ will be carried out with an investment of more than €176,000 from European funds.
This project will include the creation of space for exhibitions on various aspects of Gozitan history, which will also include cinematographic and theatrical exhibitions.
In May 2022, these spaces will be used to host a series of events in anticipation of the annual Victoria Day celebrations, which will showcase the history, culture, architecture and art of the island and the capital city in its broadest form.
The Astra Theatre and the Rabat Local Council will be hosting this event, in a renovated space which will transform and enhance two significant sites in the heart of Rabat, in order to improve various forms of artistic expression.
Minister Clint Camilleri stated that the Ministry for Gozo is committed to supporting Gozo’s cultural heritage in its diversity, and is therefore continuously helping financially both artists and artistic projects. He said that; “We believe in our talented local artists and therefore we should pave the way for their ideas to materialise.” Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri explained that this project aims to celebrate and expose Gozo’s identity, and to create a new platform for cultivation of art in Gozo.
Parliamentary Secretary Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi said that, with European funds, such projects will continue to shape Gozitan cultural heritage and preserve it for Gozitans and visitors alike, as well as to benefit the future generations, so that they can enjoy what we inherited from our forefathers. He explained that while we are commemorating and promoting our identity, we will continue to strengthen Gozo’s position as an ideal destination by offering the visitor something different, which exposes the artistic and cultural heritage of the island.
The Parliamentary Secretary concluded by saying that these European funds are being invested directly in our localities, so that the benefits can be felt by the people directly.
