Malta welcomes the appointment of Ján Kubiš as the United Nations Secretary General Special Envoy and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
Mr Kubiš’ long years of experience in the diplomatic field, in Slovakia and abroad, most recently within the United Nations as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the Assistance Mission in Iraq and Afghanistan, and as UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, will certainly serve well in his new role in Libya.
The Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs augurs that Mr Kubiš will continue to build on the achievements of Ms Stephanie Williams, the Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Libya, whom Malta thanks for the work and progress made during her tenure, particularly in Libya’s political sphere, as well as in the fields of security, the economy and humanitarian law.
Malta remains committed to working closely with Mr Kubiš and will continue to extend its full support to the United Nations’ efforts to ensure a Libyan-led political transition.
