Minister for Education Justyne Caruana visits ongoing works at St Thomas
Moore College Secondary School.
“This is an investment of €4 million, part of a massive investment of €50 million that the government is investing in our children’s education at infrastructural level. It also complements the €80 million investment the government has invested in our schools since 2013.”
Minister for Education Justyne Caruana stated this when she visited the project being carried out at the St Thomas More College, Santa Luċija Secondary School, through which this school will now have a sports complex and a hall. The school, built in the 1990s, did not have these facilities. After several requests made by the school administration, this government took the necessary action to address the situation and the requests of the educators. This is a government that listens and understands the needs of the educators.
This is a very ambitious project, said Minister Caruana, as the two projects have been assimilated together and are being carried out in collaboration with the school administration, together with the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools (FTS). It is a project that will not only benefit students and educators, but also, through the new sports facilities being built, we will also achieve student health goals. This is a government for the people, and so these facilities will also benefit the community, as the facilities for the teaching of music and drama, as well as for the teaching of physical education, will be accessible to the community after school hours.
Therefore, continued Minister Caruana, this is not only an investment in education, but it is also an investment in the community.
The education sector in our country is a priority for this government. After the additional investment of over €30 million in education to address the situation brought about by the pandemic and utilised to reopen our schools at the start of this scholastic year to continue our children’s education, this project and others are part of the infrastructure projects going on around Malta and Gozo; the construction of new schools, the modernisation of others, as well as ongoing maintenance and embellishment of our schools’ environment.
Work being done also meets environmental goals, as our new structures are sustainable and environmentally friendly, and therefore address the carbon-friendly strategy that this country is working to achieve.
Minister Justyne Caruana thanked all the educators, in particular the Principal of the College and the Head of School, as well as all the parents and children for the patience shown during the works being done. She also thanked FTS and the workers for the excellent work they are doing, not only in this building, but for all projects spread across the country.
Minister Caruana visited the school, spoke to the educators and saw the facilities that this school offers for the holistic teaching of the students.
