Savio College students came up with an initiative among themselves by creating a virtual Christmas message to support the elderly in the community, especially those who are suffering from loneliness.
The Minister for the Elderly and Active Aging Michael Farrugia visited Savio College, where he said that such an initiative will certainly encourage the concept of intergenerational connection between children and young people and the elderly.
The idea behind this virtual message was created because due to the difficult times we are currently going through, many seniors cannot be close to their family, so this initiative aims to congratulate these seniors , especially to those who are alone.
Minister Farrugia said that what these young people put forward is a thought of generosity, where the young people took an opportunity from the fact that they could not visit their grandparents and also thought of other elders who like this the time they feel alone and abandoned. The Minister said that this is a very positive initiative.
The students prepared a video, which includes singing, stories and a Christmas message, to be shown on social media at the Homes of the Elders at Christmas time. Students from various years of the College were involved in this project with the help of the teachers who coordinated the stories and the musical arrangements.
Minister Farrugia praised the initiative of these young people and said that unfortunately, loneliness is not only among the elderly, but also among the young and therefore, it will be a priority that in meetings and discussions , this topic is discussed so that the Government continues to help people who are going through this problem their lives,
