Elderly people attending the Centers for Active Aging in Mosta and Zurrieq presented a donation of gifts they had worked on, as well as a sum of money, to be distributed to the children at Sir Anthony Mamo Hospital.
The Minister for the Elderly and Active Aging Michael Farrugia attended this initiative, where the gifts were given to Puttinu’s representatives.
Minister Michael Farrugia praised Puttinu’s help, both in Malta and abroad, and said that from his experiences when he visited Puttinu’s house in the United Kingdom, he could see up close the the exceptional services that are offered there. He said the government will always be willing to offer its help to extend these services. He stressed the cooperation between different departments and said that only in this way can we succeed in continuing to give a strong boost to active aging.
He added that ths year has not been an easy year for our country especially for the elderly and therefore, expressed his satisfaction to see that such initiatives help the elderly who attend the Centers for Active Aging to find meaning in these the challenging days as well as the courage. “When a person has a purpose in life, he has something to live for and such activities that are taking place in the day centers are serving to fill the gap in the lives of many elderly people,” said the minister.
He concluded by saying that these gifts are made from the heart and will surely cheer the children in the Oncology Hospital, Sir Anthony Mamo.
The event was attended by the Chief Executive of Active Aging and Community Care Dr Renzo Degabriele, the Chief Executive of Mater Dei Hospital Celia Falzon, as well as Angele Cuschieri on behalf of Puttinu. The representatives of the Centers for Active Aging in Mosta and Zurrieq also attended on behalf of the elderly who worked on the gifts.
