Both Boris Johnson and Ursula von der Leyen say that a Brexit deal by Sunday seems unlikely with the main sticking points fishing rights and business competition rules.
The EU wants to prevent the UK from getting an unfair advantage by having tariff-free access to its markets, while setting its own standards on products, employment rights and business subsidies.
Fishing is another sticking point with the EU wanting access to UK fishing waters for EU fishing boats and if that does not happen, then UK may not be allowed to sell its fish in EU markets.
The UK argues that as it will be a sovereign country it can decide for itself what happens within its own waters.
