The Cabinet on Wednesday approved a bill amending the conditions for divorce.
Parliamentary Secretary for Equality and Reform Rosianne Cutajar presented the first reading of this bill to Parliament on Wednesday evening.
Work on the bill required a strong legal commitment to analyze the details of the current law.
As has been said on many public occasions, the government is committed to changing this law, which came into force almost a decade ago. This bill removes all legal obstacles in order to better address the realities of Maltese and Gozitan families.
The bill will reduce the many ailments and difficulties faced by people in this situation, including children, as there will be changes in the length of time one has to wait in order to obtain a divorce.
This is a government that is indeed working to make the necessary changes and reforms in order to truly improve the quality of life of all Maltese and Gozitans without distinction or other.
The government remains committed to working to ensure that the realities of Maltese and Gozitan families are not sidelined or put under the rug.
