Prime Minister Robert Abela welcomed to the Auberge de Castille His Eminence Mario Grech on the occasion of his creation as Cardinal.
Accompanied by his wife Dr Lydia Abela, the Prime Minister described the occasion as one of joy, unity and national pride. He said that His Eminence has always been a strong voice to give courage and hope and to overcome the prejudices around us among those who feel isolated.
Dr Abela said that it is certain that the elements that shaped Mario Grech during his pastoral work as a Bishop in the community, especially the Gozitan one, will make a difference as a Cardinal to bring the Catholic Church closer to the people and families.
On behalf of the Maltese people and government, the Prime Minister wished Cardinal Grech well and more proud of the nation than he already is.
