The Prime Minister’s wife, Dr Lydia Abela, welcomed children of victims of domestic violence in Villa Francia, in Lija.
Together with her daughter Giorgia Mae, the children, accompanied by their parents, participated in various activities, including cutting oranges that grow in the gardens of Villa Francia.
Prior to arriving at Villa Francia, members of the police force organized a day of activities for children, including a visit to the dog section and the horse section of the force.
Dr Lydia Abela thanked the officers of the corps who not only helped the victims of domestic violence, but continued to follow them and in their free time organized a day of activities.
She said she and Giorgia Mae were enthusiastic about opening the door of Villa Francia to these children.
Interior, National Security and Law Enforcement Minister Byron Camilleri praised the initiative and explained how such an occasion demonstrates the need to give children more attention. This is because often children see everything going on in front of them but they can do nothing but see and hear, so they go through trauma. “We are working to make the body more sensitive in its attitude towards victims of domestic violence. We want every victim, regardless of their age, to be given the attention and support they need at the most difficult time of their lives, “said Minister Camilleri.
Also present was Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà.
