€160 million in projects for Water Services Corporation

Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli addresses WSC Partners at at business breakfast

“In order for consumers to enjoy improved, good quality services, the government must focus on effectiveness, efficiency and on reaching the highest possible standards. Good service must be determined by how well we limit the impact on the environment, how much we manage to reduce waste and how much we make the best use of our resources”.

This was stated by Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli, during a business breakfast organised by the Water Services Corporation (WSC).

“The COVID-19 pandemic will not stop the investment in upcoming projects. To the contrary, we will invest more, and therefore we need to have set standards in place, for a service that is so essential for residents,” said Dr Dalli.

WSC will be working on projects worth €160 million in EU funds. For the first time, the corporation is issuing a work program to deliver higher standards in its work and the service offered to its clients, the residents of Malta and Gozo. Improving the taste of tap water is one of the aims of these projects.

Minister Dalli said that the procedures the corporation is presenting and implementing are key to maintaining the required standards.

Thanking workers and service providers for their work, the Minister said that different entities must sustain their cooperation and work in unison, so that their work may continue to improve on a horizontal level.

“The corporation’s work-plan is ambitious, with projects that will improve people’s lives and the operation of the corporation. Ambition does not dishearten us, rather let us be ready for tomorrow’s challenges and demands.”

The corporation’s Chief Executive Ivan Falzon explained that the WSC’s work plan sends a clear message of confidence and courage for the future, and the operation manual will be accompanied by a training program for all workers in the industry. In addition, the corporation will be issuing a dynamic purchasing system, dedicated to the particular needs of the sector.
