Among his first commitments as Minister for Senior Citizens and Active Ageing, Minister Michael Farrugia visited the offices of the Social Welfare Standards Authority where he met Chief Executive Matthew Vella and the employees of the authority.
One of the main pillars of the authority is the ongoing dialogue between the entities that provide social welfare services in Malta as well as regulating the providers of these services to ensure that standards are achieved and maintained by all.
Minister Michael Farrugia praised the achievements made by the authority and thanked the employees, who despite the difficulties the country is currently experiencing due to the pandemic, still showed commitment towards their role.
Matthew Vella explained the work done by this authority to improve the quality of the service provided, particularly for the elderly residents in care homes, especially during this period.
The minister concluded by saying that one of the priorities he will be working on is to ensure that the elderly have the quality of life that they deserve and that the services offered to them by the government continue to improve.
