Among her first commitments as Minister of Education, Minister Justyne Caruana took an active part in a meeting of the Commonwealth Education Ministers’ Action Group (EMAG) during which the impact of COVID-19 on the education sector was discussed.
During the meeting there was a discussion on the effect of the pandemic on this sector, on how education is being provided in these global circumstances and also each ministers responsibilities and the experience of the work done to keep education going in schools.
Minister Caruana was welcomed for her appointment as the new Minister for Education of the Maltese Government.
In her speech at the meeting, which was held virtually, Minister Caruana explained what has been done in all schools in the state so that they have all opened successfully and are welcoming both students and educators every day to keep learning going.
The Minister of Education also explained that in this month and almost fifteen days that the schools have been open, after the abrupt closure last March due to the pandemic, their opening was a success. This was primarily after more than 50 measures were implemented before the schools opened, on the advice of the country’s Health Authorities.
Minister Justyne Caruana also took the opportunity to thank both educators and students, and also all those who contributed to the reopening of schools, including all partners in the education sector.
During this meeting, Minister Cauana was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary within the Ministry, Dr Frank Fabri.
In the coming days the Minister for Education Justyne Caruana will continue with her commitments to further strengthen this very important sector for our country.
