The Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs organized a virtual event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the International Organization of La Francophonie (O.I.F.).
In his speech to mark the occasion, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Evarist Bartolo referred to the common values that Malta embraces together with the other countries in this organisation, based on solidarity, democracy and respect for diversity of cultures and languages. Minister Bartolo emphasised the importance of promoting such values as well as the French language which unites many nations and serves as an important bridge in Malta and beyond.
Led by Dr Marilyn Mallia, this event involved students from the Department of French at the University of Malta who read out literature penned by Prof. Joe Friggieri and Dr Immanuel Mifsud which was aptly translated into French. Their verses were complemented by melodic tunes on the harp of musician Jacob Portelli.
Towards the end of this event, which was live streamed on the ministry’s official Facebook page, a short video was shown summarising the messages of the ambassadors of countries that are accredited to Malta and that are members of the O.I.F.
