The Budget for the year 2021 provides for the allocation of the sum of € 95 million to the tourism sector.
This amount is the highest ever allocated to this sector and shows an increase of € 10 million over the amount allocated for the year 2020. The budget for the year 2021, when it comes to tourism, focuses on the -sustainability of the sector. To this end, a plan will be drawn up on three main pillars, the recovery of what has been lost; tourism reformulation; and the revitalization of tourism on the basis of quality and competitiveness.
Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Julia Farrugia Portelli addressed the plan at a news conference at the Mediterranean House for Conferences on the 2021 Budget, which is also the largest budget the country ever had .
“To the figure of € 95 million allocated specifically for tourism, must be added at least another € 30 million to be spent on restaurants, hotels and other tourist accommodation. € 30 million coming from € 50 million in vouchers which will once again be given by the government to all those aged 16 and over. Out of every € 100 voucher that will be given to each individual at these ages, € 60 must be spent in restaurants, hotels and other tourist accommodation. A measure that will serve as a reassurance for those involved in these sectors, “said Minister Farrugia Portelli.
