The reimagined Athenaeum Spa is back. It has been refurbished and in part rebuilt, to designs by Goddard Littlefair of the UK, who were involved in the Corinthia landmark hotel in London.
Athenaeum takes the local character, historic traditions, and unique architecture famed by this five-star property and distils them into the luxury world of wellness. The four-million-euro project has seen the facility, originally opened in 1989, completely refurbished and launched bringing world renown luxury skincare product house ESPA to Malta.
With an expansive spa and well-equipped gym, Athenaeum Spa at Corinthia Palace gives guests access to exceptional facilities including a thermal Vitality Suite and pool, a sauna and steam room, nail salon, seven exquisite treatment rooms, relaxation lounge and terrace, and an indoor swimming pool with a jacuzzi and large outdoor pool.
In keeping with the Spa’s holistic philosophy, there is also a wide range of wellness experiences and treatments offered by its in-house experts. “In partnership with ESPA, Athenaeum offers luxury products and treatments that make the most of natural ingredients and Maltese healing traditions,” highlights Adrian Attard, the hotel’s General Manager. “All treatments on the menu have been carefully crafted to offer relief from today’s high-pressured lifestyle, so that guests feel enriched, inspired, and revived.”
While Athenaeum Spa joins the portfolio of other renowned ESPA spas around the globe – such as the flagship ESPA Life at Corinthia London, the Royal Spa at Corinthia Budapest, and The Spa at Corinthia Lisbon – it has been designed with Malta’s rich culture and heritage firmly in mind.
“We are proud that, award-winning interior design team Goddard Littlefair supported by Malta based Quality Projects have created a haven shaped around the form and grandeur of authentic Maltese architecture,” says Mr Attard. “The seamless indoor-outdoor experience celebrates local artisans and the serene Mediterranean environment, creating the ideal place in which to escape the cares of the world, in both body and mind.”
Meanwhile, the renowned Corinthia service will ensure guests unwind to the fullest. “Corinthia Palace has delivered the highest standards of hospitality for more than 50 years,” Mr Attard continues. “We pride ourselves on our highly personalised service that is tailored to each guest’s needs, all delivered with signature Maltese warmth. We even offer guests the chance to book ‘time’ rather than a specific treatment – we want them to have a truly holistic, individualised, authentic spa experience.”
Corinthia Palace was established in 1968 and has become an icon on the Mediterranean island of Malta – and has even been recently highlighted on Architectural Digest Online as one of the best places to stay while visiting Malta. Set next to the beautiful San Anton Palace, the hotel is also renowned for mouth-watering, expertly prepared cuisine, showcased in Villa Corinthia Restaurant.
