The phlebotomy service in the community is now available in all localities in Malta and Gozo

After the introduction of the new phlebotomy pilot service in Birkirkara, Mosta, Żabbar and Fgura, Active Ageing and Community Care is providing this service in all the localities in Malta and Gozo.

Thanks to this service, the elderly and persons with disability suffering from mobility problems get their blood drawn for tests by professionals free of charge in their own private residences.

During a press conference, Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing and Persons with Disability Silvio Parnis said that this service is targeted at the elderly and persons with disability living in the community and, as a result of difficulties with mobility, they are not able to leave their homes and go to hospitals or health centres for this service. Due to such constraints, many of these people are ending up paying for such a service. This is why this service is now available in all localities in Malta and Gozo.

During this press conference, the Chief Executive Officer of Active Ageing and Community Care, Dr Renzo De Gabriele, presented awards to nine nurses for successfully completing the phlebotomy course. These nurses are;

  • Bernardette Caruana
  • Rania Tajuri
  • Samantha Cervellera
  • Premjith Preman
  • Katalin Mikovic
  • Yana Permina
  • Noelene Vella
  • Louise Purton
  • Ann Cremona
