An agreement between the Correctional Services Agency and the Association for Abandoned Animals will lead to a number of prisoners contributing work to this voluntary association working with abandoned animals, as part of their rehabilitation program. with an emphasis on the need to integrate them back into society.
The Minister of Interior, National Security and Law Enforcement Byron Camilleri and the wife of the Prime Minister Dr Lydia Abela visited the works that these prisoners started doing.
“It simply came to my notice then that they were doing this work wholeheartedly. While it is important to emphasize discipline, we need to think about what will happen after the sentence so that a person can start life again and society will not fall victim to a second time. Such initiatives are worth their weight in gold, ”said Minister Camilleri, who explained how the emphasis on getting the prisoner ready for working life is great.
Dr Lydia Abela said that it was a pleasure to visit this sanctuary where together with the volunteers you also see the prisoners going to work in this sanctuary where they are carrying out maintenance work. Dr Abela said this was a good opportunity to be part of their rehabilitation journey and a good step towards inclusion in society.
