In a press conference, the Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri announced the launch of a one-off measure, through which they will open applications for those enterprises and companies that have generated employment in Gozo from 2018 to apply for the reimbursement of the employee’s salary.
This scheme, which entered into force in 2018, has helped those who have benefited from it. However, Minister Camilleri explained that this is a scheme that operates on an annual basis and therefore a company that generated employment in 2019 and did not apply for the scheme, could not be eligible to apply in 2020 for reimbursement, even if the terms of the scheme are all welcomed according to the guidelines. He therefore said that the Ministry for Gozo is opening the eligibility through a one-off measure so that these companies can apply for a salary refund on the employee. The same employee must still be engaged with the company without any period of employment.
Minister Camilleri went on to say that the Gozo Employment Refund Scheme is a scheme aimed at creating more sustainable jobs in Gozo on a full-time basis. In fact, he explained how enterprises and companies in Gozo that generate new employment, where the worker is given a minimum contract of three years, benefit from a salary reimbursement of up to a maximum of € 6,000 over a period of three years. In order to comply with the guidelines, the employee must be awarded a minimum employment contract of three years.
