From today, anyone who renews or applies for a Maltese Identity Card will be issued a new one that is technologically advanced which includes a number of new security features, aimed at better protecting a person’s identity and making it more difficult to counterfeit.
The launch of this Identity Card took place at the Identity Malta offices in the presence of Prime Minister Robert Abela where he stressed that in the face of the global threat of document forgery and identity theft , Malta is once again being pro-active.
Malta is among the first member countries to launch this document according to the latest regulations issued by the European Commission.
“Through the Identity Malta Agency, this Government is showing how serious it is to protect the identity of the individual. Because today, in the modern world we live in, having a secure identity must be considered a fundamental right, ”said Prime Minister Abela.
