The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Animal Rights Anton Refalo met with farmers and villagers following an invitation to them for consultation sessions. These meetings were organized so that everyone could contribute and be given the necessary information through the discussions to then draw up a strategic plan that addresses the needs for the coming years.
The Government is working hard to further strengthen the agricultural sector and thus increase the importance and esteem towards this sector that it deserves. The purpose of these meetings was to make farmers ‘and farmers’ voices heard, to discuss the progress made in implementing the national agricultural policy, the services offered by the Ministry, how to encourage young farmers to work in the agricultural sector, the measures of the 2021 Budget, the reform of the middleman, and what aids and investments need to be made in the future that can be financed by European funds.
Minister Refalo said that “the Government is committed to working together to address the challenges in such an important sector at European level, as we work in a sphere of European laws and regulations.” He went on to say that “although a lot of work has already been done in recent months, there is still work to be done to protect, sustain and put the interest of the sector for the benefit of Maltese farmers and villagers. and Gozitans. ”
