Leaders of most European countries are gathering in France for an emergency summit on Ukraine after President Trump’s administration announced it was opening talks with Russia on ending the war without a European presence.
Just days ago Defence Secretary Hegseth said that Ukraine restoring its territory to where it was before Russia’s 2014 invasion was unrealistic as was the country’s membership of NATO.
Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the meeting in Paris was a “once in a generation” moment for national security following Washington’s announcement that that Ukrainian and European leaders will be frozen out of peace negotiations. Prime Minister Starmer went as far as saying he would put UK troops on the ground in Ukraine to enforce a peace deal if necessary.
