“Vision 2050 is a promise we must make to ourselves” – Prime Minister Robert Abela

PM Robert Abela addressing Vision 2050

The Malta Vision 2050 initiative seems to be a significant undertaking aimed at shaping the country’s future, ensuring it remains resilient, and providing meaningful improvements in the lives of its citizens. Prime Minister Robert Abela emphasized how the plan is not just a static document but a living framework, adaptable to evolving societal and economic needs. The inclusion of a wide range of stakeholders—like entrepreneurs, the business community, and European leaders—also highlights the importance of collective input in shaping the country’s future.

The workshops, with their focus on sustainable economic growth, quality of life, national defense, and thoughtful planning, suggest a forward-thinking approach that acknowledges the challenges and opportunities Malta might face in the coming decades. The next steps in incorporating the suggestions from these sessions into the official Malta Vision 2050 plan will likely be crucial in ensuring that it resonates with and benefits everyone.

“Your commitment is essential to turning this vision into reality. Together we can create a Malta that not only meets the challenges of tomorrow but thrives on the opportunities that the future brings”, said Prime Minister Abela.

The closing session of the convention was also addressed by the Maltese European Commissioner for Intergenerational Justice, Culture, Youth and Sport Glenn Micallef, who noted the importance of a country understanding the emerging changes and exploring the possibilities of the future. “It is not about predicting the future, but about generating a wide range of views on the future. Ultimately, foresight is about improving the quality of life for every citizen. In Malta and in the European Union as a whole. I want to congratulate you that I see this goal at the heart of the Malta Vision 2050”, stressed Glenn Micallef.
