4km of new cables in Mellieħa

Energy Minister Miriam Dalli

In Mellieħa, reinforcement work is underway in the distribution system where 4 kilometres of new electrical cables are being added to the network.

Through these cables, connectivity in this locality will be enhanced to continue increasing resilience and flexibility in the electrical grid.

This work carried out in collaboration with Infrastructure Malta and Transport Malta, is part of Enemalta’s commitment to laying an additional 60 kilometres of new underground cables. Through this, resilience and flexibility in the electrical network will be increased across 21 localities around Malta and Gozo.

“The work being done in Mellieħa is part of the strengthening efforts that Enemalta is undertaking in the distribution system. This strategic investment is improving local connectivity and strengthening our grid. With these projects, we are ensuring that the resilience of our network is much stronger, and that the energy infrastructure is more sustainable,” said Minister Miriam Dalli.

Enemalta Executive Chairman Ing. Ryan Fava stated, “This is a continuation of the work we did last year, where we laid more than 82 kilometres of new underground cables.” He explained that throughout the past year, Enemalta commissioned 54 new substations and reinforced work in 76 other substations. This reinforcement met well the goals that Enemalta had for the year 2024. So far, 166 feeders of 400/230V have been replaced and connected to the network in various localities. 47km of overhead lines on our roads were replaced to continue modernising the distribution network.
