Farmers’ Market project in Ta’ Qali announced

Pajjiż ta' Kwalità: Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo announces details on the Farmers' Market Project

In a news conference, with the theme Quality Country, the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo announced the details about the Farmers’ Market project in Ta ‘ Qali, with an investment of €10 million.

Through this investment they will be changing the 14,000 square meters into an open space that will accommodate and support the agriculture and food production sector. This project, which will be managed by the Maltese Food Agency (Malta Food Agency), will create a platform where the value of local food products including fruit, vegetables and artisanal products will be given the importance it deserves and become accessible to everyone.

The Minister Anton Refalo said how this project will provide farmers, villagers, and producers with an essential platform where they can show the products, and will give an opportunity to the consumer to acquire the local product directly from the -producer. He went on to explain that it will also serve as an open space in a different way for Maltese and Gozitan families.

“This market is more than an investment in favor of agriculture; it is an investment in our environment and community. The development of this open area will create a center that improves the quality of life of residents and visitors, and provides a sustainable and engaging environment where everyone can come together,” concluded the minister.

CEO of the Maltese Food Agency Brian Vella said: “This space will also include a place where one can eat and that will use local ingredients, thus promoting freshness and the quality of our products. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for farmers, villagers and producers, and the consumer, by strengthening the local economy through agriculture.”
