Launch of the ‘Help us Help others’ campaign

The President of Malta George Vella and Mrs Miriam Vella launched the ‘Help us Help others’ campaign, which by the end of this year will include two key initiatives: a twelve-hour televised event to take place on Sunday 20th September 2020 to raise funds in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation (MCCFF) and a voluntary initiative for employees who would like to donate a small part of their salary in aid of this foundation.

President George Vella spoke about the televised fundraising event, named ‘Għinuna Ngħinukom’, being an expression of solidarity for the MCCFF and its many beneficiaries in what has not been the smoothest of years since several fundraising activities have had to be cancelled or toned down a notch or two because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This has had a dramatic impact on the foundation’s coffers.

The President of Malta explained that the effectiveness of the MCCFF mission largely depends on donations from the people of Malta and Gozo. He explained how generally speaking, the aid given by the foundation amounts to around a million euro a month. Therefore, in order to be able to continue to help, the foundation launched the ‘Help us Help others’ campaign.

President George Vella maintained that these two initiatives are part of a national exercise of solidarity through which everyone can do their part for the benefit of society in general.

Chairperson of the MCCFF Administrative Board Marlene Mizzi reiterated the importance of the people remaining generous, as, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, people are still facing illnesses and hardships, and requests for help are on the increase.
