Police arrested a 19-year-old man on Thursday night after a homemade bomb was placed outside the Labour Party’s headquarters on Thursday.
The explosive device was found inside a waste bin close to the building.
Police said that investigations led to the suspect being picked up from a site in Triq Guze Pace in Sta Venera.
As news of the suspected explosive spread, Prime Minister Robert Abela called for the public to remain calm after reports emerged this morning of a “small explosion” being heard outside the Labour headquarters in Ħamrun.
“There was the sound of a small explosion overnight and now, the police and the bomb disposal are doing their job to make sure there are no other risks.”
“I want to put everyone’s mind at ease that everyone inside is okay and the situation is a calm one,” the prime minister continued. “I will continue asking for calm from everyone.”
