A new public library in the heart of Qala

The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri and the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli together with the Mayor of Qala Paul Buttigieg and the local council inaugurated a new library in Qala. This library was made with a financial investment from the Qala Local Council and funds from the Ministry for Gozo and Planning.

Minister Clint Camilleri said that such projects in the heart of the community continue to encourage learning and education in particular reading which is so important for children to continue developing their skills. He claimed that the ministry continuously helps the local councils to implement various projects for the benefit of the whole community because this is the Government’s aim to continue improving the Gozitan and Maltese villages for the residents to enjoy.

Minister Camilleri appealed to parents to encourage their children to visit the libraries in the localities including this one in Qala in order to continue instilling a culture of reading in our country.

Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli praised the commitment of the Qala Local Council in favor of this educational and learning project. She said that such projects confirm the relevance of the local councils and how important their work is for the Gozitan and Maltese communities.

“Books and reading are tools for every individual, big or small, that help us increase our knowledge. This project of a new library in the Qala community, is really an extension of the work of the Government who committed to keep education and learning at the center of his work,” explained Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.

This library will be offering a sensory corner for children with autism, in order to be an inclusive library and welcome all children without distinction. This library has been equipped with corners where children can meet to read and work together, while there are other areas specifically for quiet reading. A lot of colorful bean bags were bought to give the library a more vibrant look and new, modern furniture. In addition to books for children, a number of books for adults were also purchased. This library project also included beautification of the building.

Qala Mayor Paul Buttigieg explained that the library will also be offering a new space where various activities and meetings can be held. “The local council committed to keep investing in new material, because a library needs to keep updating it with books,” concluded Mr. Buttigieg.
