Areas of common interest between Malta and Slovenia were discussed in a meeting between the Minister for the Interior, Security and Work Byron Camilleri and the Slovenian Minister for the Interior Boštjan Poklukar.
The two sides discussed, among others, how irregular immigration is being addressed, security in the Schengen area, as well as how both sides are fighting illegal human trafficking and what effective measures they have taken , both at national and even international level, in order to curb this phenomenon.
Another subject that was discussed during the talks was the Pact on Asylum and Immigration of the European Union regarding which the European Commission is expected to present its implementation plan by the end of next month.
Both sides agreed on the importance that while the Pact will be implemented in the next two years, more work needs to be done to reduce the number of irregular arrivals to the European Union.
