During a visit that Minister Clifton Grima made to the Maltese College for Arts, Science and Technology, where he even met the students and heard what they had to say about the progress of their educational year, he announced that the means testing bands will be widened so that more students are eligible for a supplementary stipend.
Through this electoral measure, the eligibility for this additional grant will be widened to reach more students who come from low-income families. There will also be consideration for the number of students in the family, who are continuing their studies.
More than 300 students will benefit for the first time from this measure that applies from the current academic year. The adjustments are considerable with increases in bands ranging from €2,550 to €3,200.
“We are continuing to confirm that this Government fulfills what it promises and we also confirm the social spirit that this Government has. Our goal is to continue building a system that better helps students at every social level, even with financial support, because we really want to be fair to everyone. At an important moment in their study stage, we are seeing that everyone is in a position to reach all their aspirations,” Minister Grima concluded.
During the visit, Minister Grima was accompanied by the Principal and Chief Executive of MCAST, Professor James Joachim Calleja.
