The Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri attended the 51st Annual General Meeting of the Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions (CPMR), which was held this week in San Malo, in France.
Minister Camilleri participated in several sessions where many themes and global challenges were discussed, including how to continue strengthening and cohesion in the European Union. Those who intervened stressed the need for more cooperation and to strengthen the role of the states and regions in the periphery of Europe to influence the future development of Europe.
During the Annual General Meeting, it was confirmed that the next meeting next year will be held in Gozo. Minister Clint Camilleri welcomed the news that Gozo will welcome these representatives among us. “An event of this caliber will do a lot of good for the fact that the challenges of Gozo and the people of Gozo will be dealt with on a European level. We have a lot to offer and the Ministry for Gozo will do its best to make this event a success and also serve as a showcase for everything that Gozo has to offer.”
The Ministry for Gozo is an active member in several Geographical Commissions of the CPMR including the Islands Commission, as well as the Inter-Mediterranean one. This year is also the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of the CPMR, and this international event was attended by representatives from more than 150 Regions from 24 countries in the European Union including Gozo. During several meetings held, representatives from various European institutions also intervened, including from the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Court of Auditors and the Committee of the Regions.
