In the past hours, the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, Ian Borg, during his visit to Beijing, had a bilateral meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi.
During this bilateral meeting, the two ministers spoke about the strong bilateral relations that both countries have, which date back a number of years. They both recognised the need and willingness for both sides to seek ways to further improve these relations, given the current international challenges, so that both peoples continue to benefit.
Minister Borg thanked Minister Wang Yi, who, together with the National Security Adviser of the United States, in recent weeks, chose Malta as the place to continue their strategic discussions.
They both spoke in detail about the relationship between the European Union and China and also regarding the cooperation that can be done between the two countries on a multilateral basis, primarily at the level of the United Nations Security Council, since Malta is serving its term as an elected member on the same Council.
During his visit to China, the Maltese Foreign Affairs Minister also had the opportunity to inaugurate the maintenance works carried out on the building of the Embassy of Malta to China in Beijing. On this occasion, Minister Borg said that the Maltese Government is continuing its investment in order to see that the Embassy’s infrastructure is further strengthened with the aim of providing adequate space to carry out Malta’s diplomatic and consular work while also being able to serve the Maltese people residing or visiting this country. He thanked Ambassador John Busuttil and the Maltese team for the important work they are carrying out.
Minister Ian Borg also had a meeting with the Deputy Minister of the Chinese Communist Party, Wang Lingiun.
