During this Summer, 63 students attended Future Innovators Summer School, a summer school with a technological theme, which gave students the opportunity to learn about new technologies in an interactive way. This initiative was launched thanks to the collaboration between the Maltese Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), Tech.mt and the eSkills Foundation, the Ministry for the Economy, European Funds and Lands and MCAST.
Students aged between 13 and 15, between July and September took part in the Future Innovators Summer School, where they were taught about artificial intelligence, digital innovation, coding, blockchain, metaverse, 3D printing and cybersecurity. This initiative was successful, so much so that it will be held again next year.
The Minister for the Economy, European Funds and Lands, Silvio Schembri said that, “As a government we have recognized the needs of the world of work today and of the future and these programs are aimed at encouraging more our young people take interest and study technological subjects. That way we are giving them the necessary tools for the future.”
Minister Schembri concluded by saying that during the coming week in our country the MED9 of the ministers for the digital economy will be held, where together with the European Commission they will be discussing the advantages of a digital economy and welcoming the challenges it offers.
Principal and Chief Executive of MCAST, Prof. Joachim James Calleja said that, “During this summer, we had a large number of students who participated in different activities on the MCAST campus, including in -Future Innovators Summer School. Our goal is to open the facilities and learning to everyone. In the field of technology the College will continue to be at the forefront to offer relevant learning for the world of work. The Institute of Informatics and Technology within MCAST offers several courses that lead to careers in the field of the digital world. In October the Institute will be starting new courses at the Bachelor’s level in Digital Games and Cyber Security.”
The CEO of MDIA Kenneth Brincat explained that this initiative was one of several efforts being made to promote emerging technology, in this case to those of a young age. He explained that the aim of the Future Innovators Summer School was for the future generation to be more capable in the use of technology, while pointing out with satisfaction that the program is accredited. He ended his speech by announcing the opening of applications for another educational program aimed at young people called DigiNova Camp.
Between 19 and 21 September, at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali, TechXpo will also be staged. This Expo will bring innovation, technology and business under one roof.
