In a pre-Budget meeting with the Union for Nurses and Midwives (MUMN) in the Berga of Castile, Prime Minister Robert Abela delivered the message that in the health sector not only always needs a sense of leadership but also a strong human resource and the government is committed to continuing to strengthen this.
With the representatives of the MUMN, the Prime Minister said that he considers the professionals in the field of health as the backbone of the service that must continue to be strong, as he has shown that he is among the best in the world, especially during a pandemic.
Dr. Abela said that for the time to come, the priority will be the prevention of diseases and the use of science so that as a country we avoid health complications during life.
The Prime Minister referred to the election manifesto ‘Malta Flimkien’, which contains a package of strong proposals for the health sector and among these he mentioned the aspect of mental health.
The Prime Minister Robert Abela said that on this aspect, in recent years a number of important steps have been taken but more steps are needed that will be quick to address realities that we have in society.
With the MUMN, Dr Robert Abela referred to a lot of work being done in Monte Karmeli where specialized care is being given with a smaller number of patients, something that even the Auditor General noticed in a positive way.
The Prime Minister said that we also want to give a boost to the new hospital for acute psychiatric care which will be financed from funds that Malta obtained from the Recovery Plan.
While listening to the idea of MUMN, the Prime Minister Robert Abela also explained that the workers are being kept at the center of the decisions that the government is taking among them also to welcome the impacts from what is going on at a level international.
“We are giving aid to keep energy, fuel and gas prices stable. These are decisions that join many others that are keeping the state of the economy and the workers of our country strong”, claimed Prime Minister Robert Abela.
In this context, the President of MUMN Paul Pace spoke about the conditions of health workers and meant that an investment in the field of health, is an investment in people.
The Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne, Ministers Clyde Caruana and Jo Etienne Abela, Parliamentary Secretary Andy Ellul and Government Deputies Malcolm Paul Agius Galea and Romilda Baldacchino Zarb were also present at this meeting.
