On Tuesday 27th September 2022, Minister for Foreign Affairs Ian Borg attended the state funeral of the former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, Japan, on behalf of the Maltese Government. He was among many dignitaries who attended the funeral.
On behalf of the Maltese Government, he offered his condolences to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Foreign Affairs Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, as well as to the late Abe’s wife, Mrs Akie Abe.
The former Prime Minister Abe and his wife had visited Malta on an official visit back in 2017. He was the first Japanese prime minister to visit Malta.
