Former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe is in a “grave condition” after being shot while giving a speech in the western city of Nara.
Fumio Kishida, Japan’s current prime minister, said Mr Abe was in a critical condition as doctors worked to save him.
A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.
