“Today we are officially opening the Supervision Section within the Food Agency. The establishment of this section is very crucial for the sector and in fact was also a measure in the 2022 Budget. ” This was announced by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo during a news conference.
The Minister explained that some of the functions of this section are to ensure that there is no fraud in the sale of Maltese agricultural products; to carry out necessary inspections in the sector; to implement marketing standards on fresh fruit and even vegetables; to strengthen and regulate farmers’ markets; as well as offering support to the departments within the Food Agency to improve the services offered.
The establishment of the Supervisory Section goes hand in hand with work already done in the field, which includes work related to farmers’ markets, the exercise of laws related to the work of farmers. Food Agency, regular inspections were also carried out in Pitkalija, as well as training of the workers.
“All this continues to show how much the Maltese Government is committed to further strengthening the agricultural sector in Malta”, concluded Minister Refalo.
