A sustainable development story book, authored by Trevor Zahra, will be distributed to Year 6 students to encourage sustainable development knowledge amongst the younger generations.
The bilingual book complete with striking illustrations takes the form of a dialogue between a mother and her son and aims to guide students on how to live sustainably.
During an activity in Buskett, organised by the Sustainable Development Directorate within the Ministry for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development, author Trevor Zahra read out extracts from the book.
Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli explained that the initiative formed part of the European Sustainable Development Week, with the aim of increasing awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals and how to be sustainable on daily basis.
Minister Dalli also said that education and training serve as the main pillars towards a sustainable future.
“It is important to nurture children on sustainable methods and solutions which can be applied on a daily basis and in their future, at their place or choice of work. Our children are an integral part of the sustainable progress as they are the future”, said the minister.
In collaboration with the Ministry for Education, the book will be distributed to Year 6 students in schools across Malta and Gozo.
Present for the book launch were also Mr George Said, Director of the Sustainable Development Directorate and Dr Malcolm Galea, Chairperson of the Guardian of Future Generations.
