Denmark proved too strong for the Malta women’s national team winning 7-0 in their opening 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup at the Viborg Stadion in Viborg.
The hosts took the lead on the 15th minute thanks to Sanne Troelsgaard who headed the ball home from close-range.
On the 24th minute, Denmark scored the second goal when a Pernille Harder effort was blocked into a corner and from the resulting corner by Svava, Signe Bruun headed home.
Four minutes later, off another corner by Svava, Stine Larsen scored the third goal with another header.
Two minutes in the second half, captain Pernille Harder scored a fourth goal and a minute later, Signe Bruun added another.
Denmark extended the lead thanks to Rikke Sevecke on the 78th minute and one minute from time, substitute Sara Gedsted Thrige Andersen scored Denmark’s seventh goal.
On Tuesday, Malta will host Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Centenary Stadium.
