The Recovery and Resilience Plan for Malta has been submitted to the European Commission.
The Malta Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) has been formally sent to the European Commission for evaluation in the next two months so that approval can finally be given and the plan can begin to be implemented. The European Union established the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) last year in response to the major economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the launch of the Plan, the Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi spoke about the main goals of this plan for the implementation of which € 345 million is being allocated in a total budget. The plan was drawn up according to the criteria set by the European Commission, including that 37% of expenditure should be directed towards environmental projects linked to climate change, 20% to the digital transition and reforms related to Country Specific Recommendations for Malta for the years 2019, 2020.
Parliamentary Secretary Zrinzo Azzopardi stated that Malta is being more ambitious than the goals of the same Commission because in terms of the environment it plans to spend about half of the total allocation for environmental projects and about 26% of the targeted expenditure towards projects connected with the digitization of the economy.
