Principal Permanent Secretary Mr Mario Cutajar presented the Malta National Library with a complete set of all the publications issued by the Public Service in the past years. The collection, of around 30 publications, aims to make visible the work carried out to present and future generations.
The presentation took place during a visit by the Principal Permanent Secretary to the National Library ahead of the World Day for Public Services, which will be celebrated on Wednesday 23 June 2021. For this occasion, the management of the library exhibited the first reports of the Maltese Public Service, as well as other documents dating back to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
The publications presented today focus on the governance and renewal process which has taken place so far in the Public Service, particularly on the simplification of bureaucracy, the implementation of budget measures and good governance.
For the first time, a diary with all the bulletins issued in the first months of the Covid-19 pandemic by the Department of Information was presented. It includes all the measures and decisions taken by the authorities in their effort to control Covid-19 and limit its spread.
“Malta’s National Library has always been a source of information for several generations. We are living in interesting times, thus we thought to preserve all the work carried out during the epidemic as well as during the renewal process which the Public Service carried out. We are making this information available to current and future generations”, said Principal Permanent Secretary Mario Cutajar.
The Head of the Civil Service concluded by saying that this collection serves to underline the accountability introduced in the Public Service in recent years, as one of the four pillars of quality. In fact, the collection also includes the replies to the Office of the Ombudsman and the Office of the Auditor General for their reports, including the action taken by the Public Service on the recommendations given. These were published for the first time in recent years.
