Consultation between the Social Care Standard Authority and the Public Health Department culminated in the finalisation of the next step in the relaxation of Covid-19 measures in long term care facilities and the St Vincent de Paul Residence.
Two weeks ago, the first phase in the de-escalation of measures was launched. The results were encouraging with no negative impact. As of Saturday 1st May 2021, the second phase is therefore going to be introduced.
Minister for Senior Citizens and Active Ageing Michael Farrugia stressed the need to continuously downscale the Covid-19 measures. Further assessment is to be made before going to the third phase.
Minister Michael Farrugia announced that;
- Residents can now enjoy two 25-minute visits per week. On each occasion, up to two family members coming from the same household may visit their relative in the homes for the elderly. Therefore, more family members will be granted visiting opportunities per week.
- For the occasion of Mother’s Day, an extra 15-minute visit may be availed of by appointment either on Saturday 8th May or Sunday 9th May.
- Family members may visit relatives suffering from dementia, who are residents in long term care facilities, for 15 minutes daily. Each time, up to two family members from the same household will be welcome to set an appointment.
- Wearing of masks, social distancing and other health measures still apply.
- These measures will also apply to visits at the St. Vincent de Paul Residence.
