The Ministry for Solidarity and Social Justice, the Family and the Rights of the Child has signed another social agreement with the NGO Victim Support Malta. This agreement will help victims of sexual violence whose cases are recent as well as others dating back many years.
Victim Support Malta already enjoys another separate agreement with the Ministry which is intended to help people who have contemplated or attempted suicide.
At a news conference, the Minister for Solidarity and Social Justice, the Family and the Rights of the Child Michael Falzon stated that this agreement will amount to funding of € 300,000 over a period of 3 years. Minister Michael Falzon stated that this Government is interested in the facts of the minorities who are going through a time of suffering, especially when there is no support.
Minister Falzon said that this Government does not hesitate to talk about topics considered ‘taboo’, but rather goes beyond that in order to understand the suffering that these people have gone through.
For her part, a manager within Victim Support Malta Sarah Jane thanked the Government for the ongoing help it provides so that such cases can be addressed. She explained how this agreement will be reassuring to the victims to enjoy therapeutic, legal, psychiatric services and even help from a team of professionals who give first aid either in the hospital or in a police station. of the police. Assistance is provided 24 hours a day to victims free of charge, and additional support is provided to those closest to the victims.
