Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg inaugurated the Għar Barka open space, another recreational space in Rabat with an investment of almost €300,000.
“We are constantly working in order to give these recreational spaces to the community in the best possible condition and quality. This is because we believe in a holistic work ethic and we believe that our communities deserve to benefit from this as much as possible. This undoubtedly reflects the vision of this government, which ensures that work for our communities is at the top of its priorities. We are committed to maintain this commitment to work for a better quality of life for the people and look forward to another year of more work and prosperity for our communities”, said Minister Ian Borg.
The landscaping works at this open space include three different levels which are reached by stairs and ramps made of granite and surrounded by trees and plants, planted by Infrastructure Malta. The garden is guarded by a number of CCTV cameras for added security and is equipped with WiFi access for the public.
This open space also follows the guidelines for the disabled and for children of all ages, with a play area installed on the upper and lower levels.
The Għar Barka open space includes a new efficient LED lighting system as well as an irrigation system. The existing reservoir was maintained for watering plants and trees and an iron canopy with benches was installed on the middle level. About 500 square meters of hard stone paving has been laid and bins have been installed at all levels to keep the space clean.
Mayor of Rabat Sandro Craus said that, “This project, which was completed in a short time, led to another recreation space in Rabat. The work done is of the highest standard and this shows how much this ministry is truly doing work for the community. As a council, we are very pleased that our proposal has been accepted and that what we have agreed on was implemented in a short span of time”.
