Works on the wall at Fond G\u0127adir are in the final phase, which will give a more complete appearance to the wall along the Sliema coastline, while continuing to strengthen the promenade and provide better protection against strong seas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The intervention, carried out by the Department of Public Works, was carried out after there was a danger in this area from protruding and unstable rocks, as well as another wall that was in a very poor state. Through these works, this danger to the public was addressed, while the promenade was strengthened to be more protected from the effects of erosion caused by waves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was announced during a visit to Fond G\u0127adir by the Minister for Local Government and Public Works, Alison Zerafa Civelli, together with the Director General of the Works Division within the Department of Public Works, Architect Stephen Bonello, and the Mayor of Sliema, John Pillow. During the visit, the work carried out and the final works remaining to complete the project were discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Alison Zerafa Civelli said that this intervention is another example of the work being done to make public infrastructure safer, more resilient and better serve communities. \u201cWe are continuing to invest in infrastructure that provides greater security and peace of mind to the public, while protecting and strengthening the public spaces that are used daily by families and residents,\u201d said the Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Minister stressed that the Government will continue to prioritize the maintenance and strengthening of infrastructure across Malta and Gozo, with ongoing work to ensure that important public spaces are safe and continue to offer a quality environment to communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Director General of the Works Division, Architect Stephen Bonello, explained that the intervention involved preparatory and structural work, including the preparation of the foundations for the construction of the wall, in order to strengthen the stability of the infrastructure in this part of the coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For his part, Architect Mark Camilleri explained that the project is now in the final phase of implementation, with the contractor carrying out the final finishing works before the work is closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mayor of Sliema, John Pillow, thanked the Ministry and the Department of Public Works for the work carried out in this area, while emphasising the importance of interventions that continue to improve the safety and quality of public spaces for the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project was carried out with an investment of \u20ac165,877 and involved interventions on the existing infrastructure, including the excavation of unstable rock, the construction of foundations and the construction of the wall. Currently, the contractor is completing the final finishing works, including the placement of concrete on part of the wall, before the project is completely closed. Once these final interventions are completed, the project will be completely closed and this part of the promenade will be safer and stronger, with better protection against the power of the sea and the effects of erosion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
