The Esplora Interactive Science Centre celebrated its 10th anniversary with an official ceremony at Villa Bighi, marking ten years of involvement in science, education and public participation in Malta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event, which took place on 1 September, brought together representatives of the Government, Science Malta, current and former Esplora employees, educators, researchers, partners and collaborators who have contributed to the development of the Centre since it opened its doors in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Opening the celebration, Minister for Justice, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima highlighted Esplora’s role in advancing Malta’s ambitions in education, research, innovation and human capital, while encouraging future generations to face a changing world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is a moment in which we reflect on the Malta we want to build in the coming decades \u2013 a more innovative, more resilient, more creative and better equipped Malta to compete internationally, while continuing to improve the quality of life of the Maltese and Gozitan people\u201d, said Minister Grima, explaining that, \u201cMalta cannot achieve the goals of Vision Malta 2050 if opportunity only reaches those who already have access to it. Esplora helps to connect science, research and innovation with society, and inspires young people to explore opportunities in these areas and support the ambitions of Vision Malta 2050\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During its first ten years, Esplora established its role as Malta’s national interactive science hub, reaching out to children, schools, educators and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As it enters its second decade, Esplora will place a greater emphasis on STEAM\u2014Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics\u2014recognizing the importance of combining scientific knowledge with creativity, design, communication, critical thinking and collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Science Malta CEO Silvio Scerri said: \u201cEsplora is an important bridge between research and society, making science more accessible, relevant and attractive to people of all ages. By fostering scientific literacy, curiosity, skills and a culture of innovation, Esplora is helping to equip Maltese communities and future generations with the knowledge and confidence they need to shape the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Esplora Senior Director Mary Ann Cauchi, said: \u201cAs we enter our second decade, our ambition is to strengthen Esplora as Malta’s national platform for STEAM engagement, connecting science, research and creativity with people and communities across the Maltese islands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The anniversary marks a new chapter for the Center, with a greater emphasis on new interactive experiences, community engagement, accessibility and inclusion, opportunities for young researchers, stronger partnerships and greater connections between science, creativity and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the ceremony, guests watched a short documentary commemorating Esplora’s ten-year journey, which recalled key milestones since the Centre opened in 2016 and highlighted its future ambitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The official ceremony was followed by a concert by Esplora Ambassador Ivan Grech and Friends. The performance had particular significance as Ivan Grech had also performed at the official opening of Esplora ten years earlier, and returned to Villa Bighi to mark the Centre’s first ten years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The anniversary recognised the contribution of former and current Esplora employees, Science Malta, educators, researchers, partners, collaborators, visitors and communities who have helped shape the Centre over the past decade.<\/p>\n
